I will tell you the symptoms of baldness, some causes that are responsible for baldness, and possible risk factors, and in the end, I will tell you some tips and home remedies for baldness that can be useful in the journey to get rid of baldness. So let’s start;-

What is baldness?

 For an effective treatment first, you have to know what is baldness.

“Baldness is a condition in which the persistent loss of hairs occurs from the head or a specific part of our body”

Let’s clarify this definition;-

Hair loss refers to a loss of hair from part of the head or body.

Typically at least the head is involved. The severity of hair loss can vary from a small area to the entire body. Inflammation or scarring is not usually present. Hair loss in some people causes psychological distress.

  3. Alopecia areata
  4. Telogen effluvium

Male – pattern hair loss

The most common cause of hair loss in men, male-pattern hair loss can begin early. Sometimes, it starts in your late teens or early twenties.

Usually, it appears later. By 50 years of age, more than half of white men have a visible sign of male-pattern hair loss like noticeable thinning, a receding hairline, or balding

Female – pattern hair loss

Hair loss in women is just that when a woman experiences unexpected, heavy loss of hair. Generally, humans shed between 50 and 100 single hairs per day.

Hair shedding is part of a natural balance some hairs fall out while others grow in. When the balance is interrupted when hair falls out and less hair grows hair loss happens. Hair loss is different than hair shedding.

Alopecia areata is a common autoimmune disorder that often results in unpredictable hair loss.

It affects roughly 6.8 million people in the United States.

In the majority of cases, hair falls out in small patches around the size of a quarter. For most people, the hair loss is nothing more than a few patches, though in some cases it can be more extreme.

Sometimes, it can lead to the complete loss of hair on the scalp (alopecia totalis) or, in extreme cases, the entire body (alopecia Universalis).

The condition can affect anyone regardless of age and gender, though most cases occur before the age of 30.

Telogen effluvium

It is a very common type of baldness. It has partial loss of hair. It usually occurs during pregnancy.

Symptoms of baldness

Hair loss can appear in many different ways, depending on what’s causing it. It can come on suddenly or gradually and affect just your scalp or your whole body.

Signs and symptoms of hair loss may include:-

  • Gradual thinning hair on the top of the head:-  This is the most common type of hair loss, affecting people as they age. In men, hair often begins to recede at the hairline on the forehead. Women typically have a broadening of the part in their hair. An increasingly common hair loss pattern in older women is a receding hairline
  • Circular & patchy bald spots:-  Some people lose hair in circular or patchy bald spots on the scalp, beard, or eyebrows. Your skin may become itchy or painful before the hair falls out. This often occurs in male-pattern hair loss.
  • Sudden loss of hair:-  A physical or emotional shock can cause hair to loosen. Handfuls of hair may come out when combing or washing your hair or even after gentle tugging. This type of hair loss usually causes overall hair thinning but is temporary.
  • Full-body hair loss:-  Some conditions and medical treatments, such as chemotherapy for cancer, can result in the loss of hair all over your body. The hair usually grows back.
  • A bald patch or strip appears within 1 or 2 days
  • Clumps of hair fall out when you comb or brush your hair
  • All (or most of) the hair on your head fall out
  • Burning or stinging before sudden hair loss
  • Intense itching, burning, and tenderness where you have hair loss
  • Scaly bald patches, often with sores or blisters that open and ooze pus
  • Redness, swelling, and sores that may itch and leak pus
  • Scaly patches of psoriasis on your scalp

Causes of baldness

People typically lose 50 to 100 hairs a day. This usually isn’t noticeable because new hair is growing at the same time. Hair loss occurs when new hair doesn’t replace the hair that has fallen out.

Hair loss is typically related to one or more of the following factors:-

  • Heredity:-  The most common cause of hair loss is a hereditary condition that happens with aging.

   This condition is called androgenic alopecia, male-pattern baldness, and female-pattern baldness.

   It usually occurs gradually and in predictable patterns a receding hairline and bald spots in men and thinning hair along with the crown of the scalp in women.

  • Certain physiological conditions:-  A variety of conditions can cause permanent or temporary hair loss, including hormonal changes due to pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, and thyroid problems.

   Medical conditions include alopecia areata is immune system-related and causes patchy hair loss, scalp infections such as ringworm, and a hair-pulling disorder called trichotillomania.

  • Certain medications:-  There are certain medications that can be a reason for baldness.

   These medications include cancer, arthritis, depression, heart problems, gout, and high blood pressure drugs.

  • Stress:-  Many people experience a general thinning of hair several months after a physical or emotional shock. Stress and other mental disorders can be important factors in baldness. The good news is that this type of hair loss is temporary.
  • Uncertified hair treatment:-  People use many hair treatments without a dermatologist consultation, this can be a big mistake as certain hair treatments like hot-oil hair treatments and permanents also can cause hair to fall out. If scarring occurs, hair loss could be permanent.
  • Hairstyles:-  Excessive hairstyling or hairstyles that pull your hair tight, such as pigtails or cornrows, can cause a type of hair loss called traction alopecia.

  There are the following risk factors that can be due to the baldness;-

  • A family history of balding on your mother’s or father’s side
  • Age
  • Significant weight loss
  • Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes and lupus
  • Stress
  • Poor nutrition

There are the following tips that can be helpful to prevent the baldness temporarily;-

  • Wash your hair regularly:-  It is a first and very common tip that can be so effective in hair loss.

Use an ideal, mild, and dermatologist-recommended shampoo that is free from the following harmful chemicals:

  1. Sodium lauryl sulfate
  2. Laureth Sulfate
  3. Sodium Chloride
  4. Parabens
  5. Propylene glycol
  6. Diethanolamine (DEA)
  7. Triethanolamine (TEA)
  8. Chemical fragrance
  • Don’t comb on wet hairs:-  It is one of the most common mistakes that people make is combing their hair as soon as they come out of the shower. Although you may be doing it to save time, it has a negative impact on your hair. Instead, dry your hair with a towel, and then proceed to comb your hair with a wide-toothed comb.

Now, wrap a towel around your head and let it stay for 20-30 minutes

After this, wash your hair with some shampoo and cold water.

Aloe Vera for baldness

Aloe Vera is another one of the best home remedies for baldness. It is also widely used to treat other hair problems like itching and dandruff. While there are various Aloe Vera juices that keep you healthy, it is also known to be one of the best home remedies for hair fall.

Ways to use Aloe Vera:-  Take an Aloe Vera leaf and extract the pulp

Massage it to your hair and let it stay for around 45 minutes

Dose:-  Use Aloe Vera 2-3 times a week.

Beetroot juice

Beetroot has many useful vitamins and minerals that make beetroot one of the most useful hair fall remedies. It strengthens your hair roots and allows you to maintain healthy hair as well.

Ways to use beetroot:-  Take a few beetroot leaves and put them in 2 cups of water

Boil the water for some time and then let it cool. Grind it and add henna to make a paste

Fenugreek seeds
